The Challenge

Europe faces a challenge of democratic engagement. Often, vulnerable groups and citizens in peripheral areas feel distanced from the decision-making processes that shape their lives. Traditional forms of participation can seem rigid or inaccessible. Poetry 4 Participation addresses this gap by proposing a creative, non-formal alternative: Participatory Poetry.

Our Mission

The project aims to explore how creative expression can reignite democratic debate. By developing poetry-based educational materials and workshop models, we provide citizens with new languages to interact with their communities. The initiative is a direct response to the need for new narratives of inclusion, specifically targeting youth, citizens in rural areas, and those often excluded from civic dialogue.

Specific Objectives

The project is structured around four main pillars of action:

Exchange of Best Practices: Sharing methodologies on democratic participation between diverse European contexts, from the Finnish rural development model to Cypriot municipal engagement.
Development of Educational Tools: Creating and testing new poetry-based resources that educators and youth workers can use to foster democratic engagement.
Community Engagement: Implementing adaptable workshop models that encourage active citizenship through local poetry initiatives in all partner countries.
Transnational Dialogue: Ensuring a sustainable dialogue between citizens and institutions, culminating in a multilingual anthology of European voices.

Target Groups

The project engages a wide spectrum of participants:

Citizens from rural and peripheral areas.
Young people and students.
Educators, youth workers, and local administrators.
Civil society organizations seeking innovative engagement methods.
